How It Started
When the owner, Elna Bruwer, saw an opportunity to provide unemployed people with limited education with new hope, a stepping stone was created to develop their skills, in order to help provide for themselves. Elna’s idea to create something totally different inspired June Bouwer (well-known designer and artist in the Garden Route) to start creating magnificent chandeliers in a shabby chic style.
Elna and June handpicked their team and started to train them to bring these creations to life. Three months later the first design was perfected and ready to enhance a room.
Everyone was stunned by the overwhelming response from the interior decoration community, as well as the general public. Since then, Novèl has grown incredibly and apart from the chandeliers, also creates table lamps, lampshades, scatter cushions, tie backs and decor items. Because all the products are handmade from scratch, every design is one of a kind and exceptionally unique.
The business operates from a workshop in Knysna, where eight people are currently employed. The team create each product with passion and pride.
